AUTHENTICATION OF WORKS

  1. Fondazione Lucio Fontana archives Lucio Fontana’s works in accordance with procedure described below.
  2. The foundation does not provide economic appraisals of Lucio Fontana’s works.
  3. The owner of a work that he/she deems attributable to Lucio Fontana but which is not already archived must fill in the form in the link below and send it by e-mail to info@fondazioneluciofontana.it. The form contains all personal and fiscal data of the owner as well as any data and information available relating to the work subject of the request for inclusion in the archive. All relevant documents related to the work must be attached to the form. Download the form here
  4. Fondazione Lucio Fontana will review all information and documents received.
  5. After reviewing all information and documents, it will be Fondazione Lucio Fontana’s faculty to contact the owner of the work or his/her delegate, via the e-mail addresses provided with the form above and request the delivery of the work in order to submit it to the direct examination of the Artistic Committee and of the additional documents required for this purpose.
  6. The Artistic Committee meets three times a year, at the premises of Corso Monforte 23 in Milan with the consulence of Prof. Luca Massimo Barbero (download CV). Scheduled meetings are published on the website of Fondazione Lucio Fontana.
  7. On the agreed date, the owner of the work, or his/her delegate, must deliver to the premises of Fondazione Lucio Fontana the following:
    • The work to be examined without frame and any element that prevents or makes it more difficult to view it fully;
    • A copy of the bank transfer receipt bearing the operation identification number, for an amount to be quantified according to the following table:

      € 366,00 for drawings
      from € 488,00 to € 1525,00 for sculptures
      € 1.525,00 for canvases and environments
      from € 366,00 to € 1.525,00 for all other types of work, as advised

      Foreign operators with a valid VAT NUMBER shall not include VAT in their payment and add 2 Euros as tax (302 for drawings; from 402 to 602 for ceramics; 1252 for canvases, sculptures and spatial environments; from 302 to 1252 for all other types of work, as advised). The person making the payment has to fill in the form for invoicing purposes: download the invoicing form here;

      The payment is due as a flat-rate reimbursement of the operating costs of the Artistic Committee for the direct examination of the work and will in no case be refunded.
    • The deposit form of the work duly completed and signed also for full acceptance of the contractual conditions contained therein; download the deposit form here
    • Six professional color photographs of the work (three of the front, three of the back) size 18 x 24 cm. For sculptures are also requested three photos of the signature, if present. Furthermore, high-res digital images on USB pen drive must be delivered along with the printed photographs;
    • If not already provided, a proxy to delegate a third party to deliver the work together with the deposit form and anything else requested at the premises of Fondazione Lucio Fontana; download the proxy here
  8. Only the works unanimously attributed to Lucio Fontana by the Artistic Committee and Prof. Luca Massimo Barbero after direct and collegial examination will be included in the archive.
  9. The result of the direct examination of the work will be communicated via email starting from the week following the date of the meeting.
  10. In case of positive outcome, the certificate of authenticity bearing the archive number attributed to the work will be delivered within 60 days.
  11. In case of negative response, the rejection of the request for insertion of the work in the archive will be communicated to the owner by e-mail to the address provided, providing a summary explanation of the reasons on which the negative opinion is based.
  12. The works examined by the Artistic Committee and by Prof. Luca Massimo Barbero will be collected by the owner or his/her delegate after the communication of the exam result, upon invitation from the foundation and upon presentation of the receipt issued at the moment of delivery.
  13. Should the owner/delegate fail to withdraw the work, despite invitation, the foundation will take care of its storage without assuming responsibility for custody and charging all relevant costs on the owner.
