"I Tagli - Slashes (1958-1968)"
The works in this section include those that have one or more clear, regular slashes cut into the canvas with the intention of going beyond the surface of the canvas itself. The first pictures in this series are nearly always covered with aniline on the surface of the canvas, while most later works in the series make use of water-based paint. The "slashes" were initially cut in tight sequence, but then tended to be cut in small numbers or even as single, clear cuts with black gauze blocking out light from the back. The titles "Concetto spaziale" (Spatial Concept) and "Attesa" (Wait) are also to be found in this section, at times the singular "attesa" (wait) form being used, at times the plural "attese" (waits) form being preferred, according to the number of slashes the artist has cut into the canvas.
