"I Teatrini - Little Theatres (1964-1966)"
Displaying uniformly-coloured lacquered wood frames that are like the "wings" of a stage, these works present a hypothesis for spatial figurative representation. A single-colour background, crossed by holes, represents a sort of "sky", distanced from the separate square characterized by shapes presented in various ways. The first "Little Theatres" are based around abstract shapes, though very quickly they give way to figurative references, particularly trees. The relation between frame and canvas is also emphasized by the choice of colours, that go from tone-on-tone, to two separate and distinct colours.
